Lake Paupac and the surrounding area provide excellent biking options but remember that there are hills to climb! From riding around our Lake, to doing the Greentown or Promised Land State Park loops, or riding to Skytop and back, there are many options for both paved and unpaved surfaces. Road and hybrid bikes are fine for around the Lake and on the surrounding paved roads, but if you want to ride the bike trails at Promised Land State Park you will need a mountain bike.
Riding Safety
You should definitely wear a biking helmet whenever riding at the Lake or the surrounding area. Wear bright colors so drivers may spot you easily. Let someone know where you plan to go. Take a cell phone with you as well in case you need assistance. You should expect automobile and truck traffic on all public roads, few smooth shoulders, and vehicle traffic routinely exceeding posted speed limits.
Bicycling Supplies and Repairs
It is recommended that you bring a pump and spare inner tubes. If you need a bike store, there are options in Scranton, Milford, and Stroudsburg.
Lake Paupac Quadrathlon
People on teams participating in the Labor Day Quadrathlon must wear helmets. Please do not let your competitive edge allow you to ride in a way unsafe to yourself or to others!
Where can you go on the property for short rides?
Bicycles of all types are welcome on the Corporation roads. You will need a hybrid or mountain bike to ride on the path to The Circle sculpture opposite the Rothrock cottage and further on to Old Greentown Road. Please do not ride on the Lake Trail and please walk your bike on the path and bridge through the inlet area when biking around the Lake. There is no bicycling on the golf course.
